A true sign of the times, thousands queued and places were in high demand as people sought information on working abroad. The exhibition featured 85 stands and 100 exhibitors, many of them employers from Australia and Canada.
Organisers were forced to limit entry to pre-paid ticket holders and people in existing queues as demand was too high, despite increased opening hours.

I read this article and I must say I was not shock. It is awful to see so many people leaving the country but I can empathise with them. It may be a decision facing myself and some of my classmates in the months to come and while I love the idea of jetting off I am not sure when push came to shove would I be all so keen. You have to admire the people who leave though, the majority are leaving so they can work and earn a living, this has to be commended! It's a tough choice, and not a decision that is made lightly although with the country in it's current position it is hard to see the numbers falling as people seek work abroad.

ReplyDeleteGod those queues are crazy! Just shows how many people are looking away from Ireland now for jobs...
ReplyDeleteThere's a similar exhibition in UCC this week I think!
Yeah there is one in UCC i think and there is one coming up in Silversprings as well, just shows the demand!!
DeleteI always love the thought of living somewhere far away but in reality I think I would miss too much from home in the long run! Christmas in Sydney just was not the same!
ReplyDeleteWow Christmas in Sydney, I'd say that was amazing!! I totally agree though, great idea but the reality would definitely have a downside.
DeleteWow that's a lot of people! It's a pity that it's mostly construction and engineering jobs, I wish there was an opportunity in areas I have more experience in
ReplyDeleteThat's very true ... can't see many of us Commerce students being much help on a building site, unless it was to take care of the accounts or to market the project to the public :)
DeleteThe Cork one was on today, apparantly 20,000 people showed up!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you are right Katriona! Just posted a link below with some information on it!! People slept in their cars overnight and all just to be first in the queue ... Insane!
