A train station filled with history. This station would have been the final port of call for many over the years as they emigrated in search of a better life. The stories and the history is endless although the station, and indeed Cobh itself is mainly known for the fact that it was indeed the final port of call for the Titanic 100 years ago.
The railway station is still in use today and offers a fantastic service to the people of Cobh. As you can see below the rail service from Cobh very frequent and unlike many of the bus route within the city the train service is much more efficient and punctual!

As the railway station is now 150 years old the celebrations the weekend were fantastic!! The event (Birthday Party) was well attended and fun was had by all involved! This family fun day included a farmers market and children's entertainment all going along to the soundtrack of Cork's 96FM's street fleet who were also in attendance with many goodies to give away.
This marks yet another success for the organizers of Titanic 100 Cobh 2012, and may we see many more throughout the year :)

I've been to see the train station, cant believe its 150 years old, Cobh is a seriously old place
ReplyDeleteCobh is a great tourist spot but surprisingly a lot of Cork people have never visited the heritage center.Hopefully the anniversary of the titanic will attract many more tourists!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree ... the train station is actually gorgeous and there is so much to do in the town!
Delete150 years? Wow! I don't think I've ever been in Cobh train station. must check it out!

ReplyDeleteHeard 96fm talking about it on the day actually...Sounded like good fun!
ReplyDeleteI went to the heritage centre for the Titanic down in Cobh the last time I was there (surprisingly long ago now). I bet they have some cool new things there now to go see!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah a few changes I am sure, there is a train that you can sit on and get a tour of the town ... oh there's also a horse and carriage tour and a motorcycle tour, you should check these out Mike :)
DeleteSo much down in Cobh that I must go to see.. It is weird what's so close to home that you don't know about!
ReplyDeleteLooks like people will be taking a trip to Cobh soon... I'll put everyone up !! x
ReplyDeleteParty is Susie's ....
DeleteWhen did the name change from Queenstown to Cobh actually do you know?
ReplyDeleteHas an American ever asked you for directions to cobh... One asked me once when I was about ten where Cob- H was...
ReplyDeleteOh when I was working down there over the summer I heard it so so much, it's hilarious!!
DeleteI've always wanted to go there. Actually I'm starting to realise how little of Ireland I've actually seen! Most foreigners have been to more parts than myself, bad enough form!
ReplyDeleteI am the exact same, it is awful!! And then when I travel anywhere I feel the need to see everything, such a shame!
DeleteReally want to head down for the Titanic 100 events in April!
