Dublin Zoo Set New Record!

Dublin Zoo Set New Record!

During 2011, 1 million people passed through the gates of Dublin Zoo!!

This is a new record for Dublin Zoo and beats the previous record of 963,053 people set in 2010. Dublin Zoo is one of Ireland best known tourist attractions and has been open for 180 years.

The Barrett family from the Navan Road in Dublin were the 1 millionth visitors to Dublin Zoo. To celebrate, they were given a five-year family pass and a VIP tour of the Zoo where they met the keepers and got exclusive behind the scenes access.

Leo Oosterweghel, director of Dublin Zoo said, We are absolutely thrilled with reaching 1 million visitors and we would like to thank all our friends and supporters, old and new, who helped us achieve this incredible milestone. I am delighted to be able to say for the second year in a row that the Zoo is more popular than ever before."

I was delighted to read this good news story, especially considering the amount of negative news stories we have seen of late. This story gives a great boost to all attractions in Ireland, most especially to similar attractions such as Fota Wildlife Park in Cork. Unfortunately I have not visited Dublin Zoo since I was a tiny tot but have visited Fota on a number of occasions and have really really enjoyed it, despite probably being a bit too old! The Zoo is fantastic place to visit for people of all ages and with this amount of people taking a trip I must be right!

  3. Ya agreed it is great to see such attractions doing well especially because it is located in Phoenix park which is such a great tourist location. Irish tourism needs this kind of positive publicity so it's great to see it doing well.

  5. I have not been to the Zoo in years but it was always fun when I went. The best thing about it is that you dont have to be any paticular age to go and just look around and have fun. You are never to old for the Zoo.

  9. Its great to see such a wonderful attraction receiving the footfall it most certainly deserves. Its also a great example of the the kind of figures which Irish tourist attractions can potentially reach.

  10. Nah.... Never too old for the zoo! The last time I went I was reluctant as my previous memories did not portray the zoo as a very nice place, however upon visiting and since the remarkable new safari opened, the zoo is a fabulous day out and a really nice, tranquil place to spend time with either young ones or old ones like myself! Thumbs up from me anyway!
